Job Description

User Experience Designer (Level III)

Location: Charlotte, NC

Engagement Type: Contract Role

Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Simplifying Complex Interactions: Reimagining intricate setup and customization tools—originally crafted for large-scale organizational clients—and transforming them into intuitive, workflow-driven experiences for smaller to medium-sized business markets.
  • Streamlining Workflows: Translating complex configuration processes into simplified, guided experiences suitable for a broader audience (e.g., guided setup procedures, question-and-answer forms, intelligent default settings).
  • Fostering Collaborative Evolution: Working closely with product strategists, engineering teams, and fellow design professionals to evolve sophisticated systems into modular, reusable interface components.
  • Ensuring Adaptable Design: Designing and documenting responsiveness across various display sizes, prioritizing mobile-first interactions without compromising functionality.
  • Deconstructing Requirements: Breaking down intricate configuration needs into scalable user experience logic, balancing automated processes with customization capabilities.
  • Producing Design Artifacts: Creating preliminary layouts, user navigation paths, interactive prototypes, and final user interface elements that clearly communicate intended interactions.
  • Leading Design Initiatives: Guiding or contributing to design workshops or collaborative sessions focused on system simplification and user onboarding.
  • Leveraging User Research: Partnering with user research specialists to validate assumptions with actual users and iterate on designs efficiently.
  • Championing Consistency: Advocating for design system adherence while also contributing to its ongoing development based on the evolving needs of smaller business clients.

Here’s what our ideal candidate has:
  • Over 5 years of experience in User Experience or Product Design, with a proven track record in business-to-business software-as-a-service (SaaS) or platforms with extensive configuration options.
  • Experience designing initial user setup flows, guided configuration wizards, or question-based configuration interfaces.
  • A deep understanding of adaptable design patterns, mobile user experience considerations, and component-based design systems.
  • Ability to abstract complex systems into clear cognitive models and user-centric flows.
  • Proficiency in leading design software, along with experience documenting user experience specifications for developer handoff.
  • Strong collaborative skills within multidisciplinary teams, especially when working with product managers and engineers.
  • Experience with iterative development methodologies.

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Background in service design, systems thinking, or projects focused on transforming user experiences for the small-to-medium business sector.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, User Experience, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Advanced user experience training or certifications in systems thinking or enterprise-level user experience is a plus.
